Batch of 1984-1988 (Satya Nadella’s and the likes)- Silver Jubilee and Farewell celebrations

The batch of 1984-88, Manipal Institute of Technology completed their 25 years last year. Every year the college organises a silver jubilee alumni meet. A few years back the mega seniors had bought two speakers and the music blared at max at midnight in front of 14th block. They danced in their Baniyans while having pegs of whiskey.

This year the Alumnus didn’t disappoint either. There were various programs organised by the students (makes me wonder who as MIT had vacations), followed by felicitation of some notable Alumni. Satya Nadella was not present as I presume he’d have been busy with the CEO campaign, yet a special mention was made during the ceremony. But Nadella was not the only reason for the fame of 1988 batch. Vijay Seshadri, a suave personality was trained professionally for eight years by Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. Ashwini Choudhary, was and still is an ardent bike rider. He is currently recovering from an accident he suffered while going to a race in Los Angeles. Our prayers are with him for a speedy recovery. Ganesh Prasad was also felicitated for his plethora of achievements. Dr. K Kamalasha who was a senior’s nightmare and a fresher’s parasol during his stint as warden, also graced everyone with his presence.

What ensued was hours of partying in nostalgia of old times. While most returned to their busy scheduled the next day, some chose to extend their trip. They hired a cab to Coorg as they travelled in (with) high spirits. I wonder what it’d be like to meet friends after a quarter of a century. Imagine us being in our late forties, drinking single malts instead of the monk and finally having the money for dinner at Attil…

The Royal mech. brought a band to the college in some style this year; some went for a boat party and others the usual slogans around the campus. Everyone was in awe of them. Let’s take a peak on how it was done by the 88 batch.

It was unusual for an Engineer to be, to write an exam, filled with excitement. Yet there they were, the two hundred and eighty students writing their last engineering exam- The batch of 1984-88 of Manipal Institute of Technology.  The notorious knew something grand was about to happen, the mischief had been in planning for long and it was time to push the domino……Read More
